John Stossel is the best-known libertarian in the news media. As the co-anchor of the long-running and immensely popular ABC News program 20/20, auteur of a continuing series of specials on topics ranging from corporate welfare to educational waste to laws criminalizing consensual adult behavior, and author of best-selling books such as Myths, Lies, and Downright Stupidity, Stossel brings a consistent message of liberty to millions of viewers on a weekly basis. It wasnt always this way. Born in 1947, Stossel started out as a standard-issue consumer reporter, working in Oregon and New York before joining the staff of Good Morning America and, later, 20/20. He did scare stories about everything from pharmaceutical rip-offs to exploding coffee pots. Then, in the 1980s, he encountered reason, which radically changed his thinking about the benefits of laissez faire in economics and personal lifestyles. “It was a revelation,” he writes in his 2004 memoir, Give Me a Break. “Here were writers who analyzed the benefits of free markets that I witnessed as a reporter. They called themselves libertarians, and their slogan was Free Minds and Free Markets. Well, …, Newton was really the first person to quantify how gravity worked (or at least it’s affect on objects) in a consistent manner. His theory was used in the discovery Neptune based on the influence of Uranus which led further credence to his theory.

Do planets ever start zigzagging or stars just appear and disappear, for example? Or even more extreme, say gravity quits working, up becoming down, or a giant eyeball appearing in the sky? Not in our neighborhood, because I’m sure we would’ve seen it, but what about on the farthest edge our telescopes can see? I’ve heard of some other unexplainable phenomena that’s “stumping scientists” (sorry can’t remember exactly what they were now) out in the boonies. So maybe this is a rare, but occurring situation?

No, the laws of physics don’t suddenly stop working. You’d die if they did. Even though you don’t realize it, they’re keeping you alive in one way or another. Not really sure what you’re talking about that’s stumping scientists, but the whole point of science is to figure out how things work. And we’ve never found anything that actually exists but we can’t explain in any way. It just takes a while to figure out how some things work.

you dont seem to know much about that which you troll….

a) it isn’t really universal health care otherwise there wouldn’t be ‘end of life counseling’, all would get equal treament.
b) there isn’t universal law enforcement or fire control.however, it does seem to be everywhere… fact is, you dont have to call a cop if you get robbed/mugged. you can simply go about your life, as long as you buy health insurance from a govermnent approved source.

“Intellectual Property” or just good taste?

Yeah, more copyright stuff. But, this was bugging me until I finally finished it. So, here you go. I should stem the tide now. I write for a living, I know all about intellectual property, and I’ve been plagiarized many times to boot. Personally, I don’t care because when it comes down to it, they still come to me when they want quality. I got a video gig at Expert Village because the paintball community TOLD THEM to hire me, and isn’t that the true power of the information age? the point is that in the real world, I make something, I sell it, I make something else to sell. Somehow, these people have it in their heads that they can sell and resell the same product for 75 years, and never be touched. That makes about as much sense to me as, say, a donut maker telling me the same thing. So, you get my metaphor. A really tasty one too, I might add. I also understand that the intellectual property laws are in place for a reason. But I also have a working understanding that the laws, as they are now, are broken. And this is a video making fun of the serious business type people who sit around tables and decide that some 10 year old kid putting a Linkin Park song in a video he made using World of Warcraft and “Win Movie Maker” is causing the band financial loss. 75 years plus the lifetime of the artist means we can’t openly be inspired, or seek critique, or educate ourselves. If the Renaissance masters had to deal with this we wouldn’t have the Mona Lisa. Copyright law needs an …
