It all depends on what ports are available on your laptop and on your TV.

It’s all on the same cable. Just use a good quality cable splitter; look for one good to at least 1.5 GHz. The TV and the cable modem will pick out what they need.

ADDITIONAL INFO: If this is analog cable, you shouldn’t notice anything in the picture until the signal gets weak enough to cause noise. With the modem and digital cable, you won’t notice anything until the signal gets so weak it just won’t work. If you are only splitting two or three ways, you should be OK.

My cable company converted to cable recently.I have a digital tv so I gave the converter box to my daughter.I get local stations and sports line-ups on 5 stations and 40 plus music stations.I have expanded basic but I can no longer get cartoon, sci-fi, discovery, a&e , etc. What gives?

If you have cable then you won’t need a converter box. You will get your local channels through your cable company. The converter boxes is for those whose television (not HDTV) is receiving local channels using their rabbit ears (indoor antenna) or outdoor antenna.

You need to contact your cable company if you can no longer get certain channels like sci-fi, cartoon, a&e it might be the channels are on a different package plan.
